Candace Sosa is “Not, Not Gonna Try”

Date:

Not, Not Gonna Try

Candace Sosa‘s “Not, Not Gonna Try” perfectly captures the in-betweens of a relationship and the “friend zone.” The Los Angeles-based artist’s songwriting has been put to use by major stars such as BTS, yet their track “Not, Not Gonna Try” is revolutionary on its own.

Sosa’s single offers a certain nostalgia, reminiscent of early 2000s pop punk/punk rock. “Not, Not Gonna Try” brings relatability to a whole new level because it perfectly explains the continuous pursuit of a romantic interest, even though the feelings are not reciprocated: “I hate that I can’t have you / But I see you all the time / …I hate that I can’t have you / But I’m not, not gonna try.”

The single is an honest admission of being devoted to someone, despite it potentially being a waste of time. Canada Sosa’s lyrics paired with pop punk sounds create the perfect nostalgic but relatable hit.
