Sasha & the Bear, the duo formed by Sasha Daniel and Dov Igel, make a soft but compelling bedroom pop sound that leans into their individual electronic interests. Their new track, “Get ‘Em,” is a duet inspired by the hauntingly beautiful chemistry of Thom York and PJ Harvey on their collaboration for “This Mess We’re In.”
Sasha & the Bear have moved around quite a bit from their initial inception in New York. They have since travelled and recorded all over Europe in places including Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Spain, and more. The music on their previous EPs has been influenced by their travels and pulls from the rich cultures of these countries. The new track “Get ‘Em” seems to be pulling more from grounded emotional states and personal experience, which plays to the strength of the duo’s intimate vocals.
Musically, the sound is poppy and somewhat stripped back, mixed with well-timed spoken-word conversation, clearly a nod to their main inspiration for the track. Unsurprisingly, Sasha & the Bear shine most on this single when they are singing together. Whether it be the harmonies on the swelling chorus or their interspersed back-and-forth dialogue, “Get ‘Em” is a clear indication of the duo’s shared vision. Summing up the track, the band adds,
“‘Get ‘Em’ is for those moments when the storm has passed, but the weight of what lingers is still heavy in the air.”
