San Francisco-based band gloomy june is known for juxtaposing vulnerable lyrics and catchy, danceable rhythms. While they spend most of their time touring and performing for their fans, they are eager to release their self-titled debut album in early 2025. Their new song “picking scabs” focuses on loss. 

“picking scabs” is about the space left by someone’s absence. Through high-energy percussion and leading guitar, gloomy june recounts their grief after losing a loved one. The chorus sings “Every wound could heal in time / Picking scabs of what we had so you don’t fade out,” showing their efforts to keep this family member’s memory alive.
