Uwade‘s newest single, “Call It A Draw,” just dropped on Jan. 30. Crafted with a steady hand, Uwade’s music has earned her a place on Fleet Foxes’ Grammy-nominated album and has allowed her to tour with an array of well-renowned artists including Sylvan Esso and The Strokes.
About “Call It A Draw,” Uwade said:
“‘Call It A Draw’ started with a drum loop, a chord progression, and a feeling of restlessness. The creation process was pure, playful, and visceral, relying less on structure and more on improvisation. This approach was really freeing and reflects the sense of release that I feel is central to the project as a whole.”
“Call It A Draw” is the first single from Uwade’s upcoming debut album, Florilegium, out April 25. The collection of songs will span several genres and themes ranging from sorrow to friendship. In this album, Uwade honors as much of herself as possible — from her scholarly tendencies, to her Nigerian heritage, to the melodies of artists who inspire her to create music.
About her upcoming album, Uwade said:
“I offer these songs as flowers of gratitude to those who have seen me through my life. I share them with the world as a reminder to cherish opportunities for renewal.”
