Lo-fi rapper Thrxttle switches gears, releasing new single “Myself” under the name Ryan Runner

Date:

“Myself” is the final track off of the EP Identity, which was originally being released under the name Thrxttle. Currently out on Spotify as a single under a new name, Ryan Runner, “Myself” marks a change in direction for the artist, leaning into a pop-heavy sound.

Ryan Runner’s new sound is influenced by pop punk, emo, and pop rap. Describing the new track, he lays it out as “a modern mix of self-deprecation and Gen-Z Sigma male energy.”

“Myself” is full of the anxious energy and trap beats of Thrxttle’s previous work while clearly departing into a stylistic change. Similar to the sounds of Machine Gun Kelly and Jxdn, Ryan Runner creates a song with a rebellious attitude and repeated catchy hooks. The style is polarizing, and longtime fans of Thrxttle might be surprised to see this single land in his catalogue.

Ryan Runner clearly has a different audience in mind with his new project, seemingly headed into a more mainstream appeal. Certainly palatable for modern pop punk TikTok fans, the switch-up is a bold and slightly confusing move if “Myself” is slated to be the final track on an EP which is filled with Thrxttle singles released in 2023 and 2024.

After a serious change of pace, it will be interesting to see how Ryan Runner and Thrxttle handle the release of future singles. Stream the new track here:
