On the 10-year anniversary of their hit song, Maudlin Strangers release “Overdose – Redux”

Date:

Indie pop-rock group Maudlin Strangers has had a turbulent history since its 2010 inception by Los Angeles native Jake Hays as a solo project. After the 2015 release of the well-received Overdose EP, the band opened for acts such as Bad Suns, LANY, and Cold War Kids. Shortly after, in 2016, the Maudlin Strangers announced that they were going on hiatus.

Flash forward to 2023 and the Maudlin Strangers returned, releasing a string of singles as a three-piece band containing only one of its original members, drummer Richie Gonzales. “Overdose – Redux” is a revised and updated version of the band’s most popular song, title track “Overdose,” from their debut project. Talking about the “new” single, the band added,

“This version has been entirely re-recorded with no samples from the original, and wanted to reimagine it with more clarity, drive, and a more modern mix, while staying true to the original as well.”

“Overdose – Redux” is an attempt to revisit and revitalize the band’s glory days by appealing to old fans with a bit of nostalgia while trying to capture the attention of a new audience by updating their most popular song. The new mix is punchy and catchy, fit for a pop tune of the modern age.
