Audrey Huynh, an indie singer-songwriter based California, has released her newest single “you miss it, too” in preparation for the release of her debut EP. With vocals like Olivia Rodrigo and lyrics like Gracie Abrams, Huynh’s steady yet passionate voice seamlessly conveys the longing and regret of leaving a relationship, even if it was for the best.
“you miss it, too” transports listeners to Huynh’s daily point of view, trying navigate a new normal without the person she wants to be with. Moving forward from a relationship proves to have difficulties when confusing, unresolved feelings are still involved. Elaborating on this concept, Huynh says:
“It feels really vulnerable and reflective of what it’s like to be confused about a relationship and about how you feel towards a person in that context.”
Woven throughout the verse and chorus, Huynh battles with thoughts of regret; wondering if her lover misses the relationship, and if they think of her from time to time. Lyrics such as, “I know it’s bad / I know I shouldn’t but I do,” and, “I know it wasn’t right / I know it was a matter of time,” are Huynh’s confessions of this relationship and its inevitable downfall.
Self-reflection, regret, temptation and repeat is a universally vicious cycle in breakups, and Audrey Huynh captures it perfectly in “you miss it, too.”
