Housewife is frantic to help others in new single, “Work Song”

Date:

Toronto’s very own Housewife has released the newest single from their upcoming EP Girl Of The Hour, “Work Song.” Trying to fix everyone’s problems except their own, “Work Song” highlights Housewife’s prowess as a songwriter accompanied by a lively indie and bedroom pop styling.

Housewife, a.k.a 20-year-old Brighid Fry, is able to bring a fresh perspective to the common topic of self-destruction by focusing their lyrics on how they cope with this self-destruction. The chorus “I’m dying to work a miracle” shows a person trying to ignore their own problems by obsessing over others; desperately wanting to be someone else’s guardian angel. Changing from an outward to inward observation between verses gives the song a nice narrative progression without having to stray too far from the overall message. Housewife’s ability to give a fresh point of view makes them a captivating artist to follow.

The lyrics play with some fuzzy guitars and crunched drums to create an animated and dynamic indie-pop sound. Fans of Del Water Group, The Beaches and ROLE MODEL will be swayed by the nice build in the instrumentation, with the growing sound of guitars giving a reflection of the disorganized message of the lyrics. Hiding in the back of the mix is a soft, shiny counter melody, letting “Work Song” have a subtle sharpness that fulls out its soundscape. Housewife’s vocal layers tie the song together, making sure that the vocals blend well with the bedroom pop style.

Housewife’s new EP releases on the 7th of March and if “Work Song” is any signifier, the EP is going to be an exciting listen.
