Newly released through NIGHTMODE Records, Iraqi-New Zealander artist Mikeyy effortlessly blends dance pop and house-adjacent beats to create “Lift,” an infectious song centered around his desire to be supportive and motivating to friends and/or lovers in his music.
At just 5 years old, Mikeyy’s father taught him to explore songwriting and music composition. This led to his transformation from being a music lover to being a multi-instrumentalist musician and producer. Mikeyy’s skills are perfectly shown throughout “Lift,” which immediately encapsulates listeners with retro house-groove and increasing replay value.
The new single also features intense yearning and emotion described through its lyrics. Through Mikeyy’s lyricism, he provides a safe and encouraging space for individuals throughout “Lift.” The lyrics “I think I need to move on / I think I need to be strong / But then I pass ya,” followed by the chorus, “I just want to lift / I just want to lift you up,” give insight into Mikeyy’s mindset. It’s easy for listeners to resonate with the confusion of navigating relationships while given the example of resilience and inspiration throughout the lyrics.
Mikeyy also implements his narrative in “Lift” through the production of the song. Synths, piano, strings and other modern pairings are scattered throughout the length of the track, as followed by a beat drop. Geniously produced by Mikeyy, “Lift” gives listeners the ability to enjoy fast tempo and euphoric sound as well as passionate vocal delivery.
The modern appeal of Mikeyy’s production paired with the resonance of his lyrics solidifies “Lift” as a track listeners can relate to one way or another.
