Midnight Foolishness release new single, “Wishing You The Worst”

Date:

Brooklyn quartet Midnight Foolishness have teamed up with some of heaviest hitters in alternative rock and hardcore on their new single “Wishing You The Worst.”

Collaborating with Jonny Craig, Joseph Arrington (A Lot Like Birds, Royal Coda) and Eric Moore, Midnight Foolishness’s latest single comes following a comeback year in 2024. They had been on a seven-year hiatus previously. Their new sound leans more into the hardcore and heavy rock they only flirted with on their 2017 pop-punk album Use Your Head Not Your Hands and the new sound seems much more like themselves. Yet, they somehow seem to lose their own individuality between highlighting so many collaborators in one track.

Drummer Julio Samuel Arias is the highlight of the song with his drum fills giving a held-back anger that makes the song easy to rock out to. The sounds of the drum crashes and constant changes in rhythm give the song a shine that elevates the single above just a simple rock song.

The lyrics in “Wishing You The Worst” are kept to a minimum, but they give the vocalists a chance to fill up the space with some great vocal runs. However, these vocal runs aren’t given the chance to shine and the lack of change within the lyrics and melody make the song feel monotonous quite quickly. The full potential of this song is most likely found in its live version.

Lead vocalist Robert Corbino has hinted at new music on its way in 2025, asserting that “this is just the start of a stacked 2025 for Midnight Foolishness, so watch this space.”

It’ll be interesting to see how they make use of their new energy.
