All it takes is one song. One song that does not get skipped when it comes up on shuffle. One song that makes you turn the music up when it comes on the radio. One song that speaks to everyone. Last year, Beach Weather had their “one song” moment when they released their debut album, Pineapple Sunrise. The project contained the song “Sex, Drugs, Etc.,” which hit #1 on the Alt Radio charts and was recently added to Spotify’s “Billions Club”. The album itself has been streamed over one billion times, launching the alt-rock band into a sold-out headline tour of North America earlier this year.

By the summer, when you expected everything to cool down, Beach Weather decided to heat things up. They began releasing singles from their upcoming sophomore album, Melt, inviting fans into the next chapter of their journey, which centered around a dramatic and alluring disco in the desert. We recently had the opportunity to connect with Reeve Powers, the bassist and backing vocalist, where he described the writing process, favorite songs, and what 2025 will look like for the band.

Hey there, thank you so much for taking the time out to chat. How are you feeling now that Melt is out in the world?
I’ve listened to that thing a bunch already, so I’m happy other people can give it a rip now.

You started rolling out this album over the summer, with the release of “High In Low Places” and “Hottest Summer on Record.” You then shared “Hardcore Romance” and “Deadbeat Blues.” What was a highlight of sharing those singles?
Not gonna lie, it all feels like a blur. But a personal highlight for me would be getting to play the new songs live. Kicked some of the old songs out for a change!

Where does the album title come from?
It comes from the track “Melt” that started off the writing process of the record. I think we all had some version of that title in our personal notes. But Nick and Sean wrote that one alone together, like the little musical lovebirds they are, somewhere off in la-la land.

The press has described this album as “desert disco,” which we have seen in the aesthetics of the single art and the music videos. How did this concept come about?
We have always made our music out west, in Arizona to be exact. So, it felt fitting to really add that to the imagery of the record.

Was the process of making this album any different from making your debut album?
Yes. I got to have a little fun on this album. I’ve always been more of a live guy until now. I helped write more than half the record with the guys, which was cool. Also, we didn’t take a single week to make this record, but two or three weeks…

Do you have any favorite memories from creating this album?
I started going insane by day four. But, I remember something about a psychedelic frog named Marty.

What is your favorite song or songs from Melt?
“Stardust.” My real favorite didn’t make the cut. It’s called “Tulips.” Maybe you’ll hear it someday.

What do you want fans to take away from the album?
Whatever you want, man! Not our record anymore.

What does 2025 look like for Beach Weather?
Hopefully some more shows. Looks like we’ll go to Brazil, hopefully Europe and the UK. I have my passport ready.

Thank you again for your time. Do you have any final thoughts?
Thank you! No thoughts, just vibes.
