Melodic Music Monday: November 18

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

Olivia O’Brien, “lower” The EP’s first single “lower” greets listeners with reverberating vocal notes layered manually to achieve an effect more resonant than a vocoder would provide. “And they say, they say that it’s only up from here / But I’ve hit a new rock bottom every single year,” she sings even keel. The song, and EP at large, maintains a generally acoustic sound, similar to love & limerence.

– Avery Heeringa

BoyWithUke, “Love Lost” On “Love Lost,” Yang lets his vocals power through to express the frustration of feeling an amazing relationship ended too quickly and not adapting to living without them. He illustrates his disappointment using metaphors and details like “Stuffed animals that used to light up the room.”

– Julissa Mendoza Robles

Peach Luffe, “Better Off” “Better Off” is about the uncertainty sometimes faced in relationships. Through steady percussion and expressive vocals, Peach Luffe shares the stress he has gone through trying to figure out where his partner stands. The chorus sings, “Be here and save me when I’m down / Or would I be better off? / Would you be better off?” showing the questions he has been considering at this point of this relationship.

– Emma Celenza

——

Mondaze, “Lines of You” – The single is pumped full of grunge tone, driving home an intense feeling of melancholia as the pounding drums carry on into a complete wall of noise, leaving listeners to continuously crave a headspace filled with static and craze. And sometimes, that’s all we really need to tune out the world around us.
