daste. writes their love in the stars with “Starwriter”

Date:

Australian trio daste. has given us a taste of what’s to come on their upcoming album with their newest single “Starwriter.” The song’s low tempo and dreamy melody make for the perfect all-occasion song, whether it’s a late night drive, a gathering of friends, or just another feel-good song to add to your daily playlist.

The song opens with a groovy drum melody. It’s dancing along the lines of lo-fi with slight smooth jazz influences and the use of synth really driving the pop-inspired sound. The lower-range tempo of the song also makes for an overall relaxing ambience. The vocals are breathy and come off like a soothing, calming whisper. The vocal tone also stays in a lower register, not fighting against the melody but overall really complementing it.

Lyrically, the song is on the simpler side. The chorus goes “Looking up at the stars / Looking down from afar / looking up at the stars / looking down from afar,” which repeats throughout the majority of the song. However, the simpler lyrics add the ability to just relax into the atmosphere that the melody creates. You don’t need to focus too much on any specific part of the song, as the lyrics are straightforward and the audience can simply enjoy it and have it memorized by the second listen. In terms of the theme, it revolves around a confession of love for someone you want and giving them the time to come to you.
