Melodic Music Monday: November 11

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

ISHAN, “Universe Needs” The single sounds as though it takes inspiration from singer-songwriters like Ed SheeranShawn Mendes, and Noah Khan. We listen to a folky pop ballad unwind into an explosive rom-com end-of-movie moment, where all loose ends are somehow tied: “All time / Is happening somewhere near / Does that mean that time’s not real? / Is that why you’re always late? / Eyes wide / While everyone else runs blind / You’re just a different kind / Your spirit belongs in space.”

– Amelia Rodriguez

Aiida, “Got No Strings” “Got No Strings” is about moving on from a past relationship. Through punchy bass and strong vocals, Aiida shares how she has changed for the better since the ending of this messy partnership. The chorus sings, “Looking so good you can’t believe / I could have been yours / But now I got no strings on me” showing the freedom she now feels since this relationship has ended.

Sonoma The Kid, “Over!” – “Over!” is an up-tempo track blending consistent hip-hop rhythms with sleek rock guitars to create a dark yet energizing sound. Coupled with a satisfying repeated rhyme scheme, this track mimics a pace for a sense of urgency which may mirror the song’s meaning.

– Kelly Carciente

Juia Calvin, “Honey I’m Home” – The song opens with a haunting piano melody that would seem at first listen like it would lean to be a ballad, but as the song progresses, so does its cross into the alt pop genre. This combination within its composition and the use of different tempos also help to highlight her vocal tone. Thematically, it worked to blend the jump through genres with this setup. The ad libs add a layer of depth into the song, as well. Calvin is able to use her voice as the cherry on top, but not to dominate and take away from what’s already there.
