Christina Munsey delivers a heartfelt anthem of longing in “cold september”

Date:

North Carolina native singer-songwriter Christina Munsey has released her newest indie rock/alt pop single “cold september.” The song captivates with its silky lyrical content and more traditional rock instrumental melodies. She’s most recognizable for her song “Give me a Minute” as featured in Netflix’s Love Is Blind. She’s artistically developing her sound and overall musical production. In her newest single specifically, she was impressively able to complement some rather bittersweet lyrics with melodies that tell another story.

The song stands out lyrically as it’s based upon themes of longing and navigating the grief that comes with healing from a partner you’re no longer with. There’s also a reflective tone layered into the lyrics that creates an atmosphere for the listener that’s cold, much like the setting the song is about. The lyrics go “It’s a cold September, the air’s unfriendly without you.” There’s also an emphasis on being without this specific person, underscoring the limerence she’s still grappling with.

Musically, there’s this balance of heartfelt lyrics with more timeless melodies. The guitar riffs and driving pulse amongst the drums adds an infectious energy that overall creates a more angsty atmosphere, while the lyrics carry a heavier tone. “cold september” is another example of how Munsey continues to grow and expand her musical ability. This song is bound to resonate with a large audience between the indie rock/pop genres.
