Rock duo The Haunt has recently released their latest single, “Masochistic Lovers,” a high octane track featuring Escape The Fate’s Craig Mabbitt.

“Masochistic Lovers” brings the band’s core sound to a different level, with galloping drums and chaotic riffs that feed into the sense of distress the song carries. At just over the 2-minute mark, the track is frenetic, like a burst of anger that has been building up and suddenly explodes. The addition of Mabbitt’s melodic vocals and guttural howls speeds up the pace, blending in beautifully with Anastasia’s sultry tone.

The sounds all work together to support the deeper message of the song: as we live in a high-pace, high-stress world, we try our best to stay afloat and meet society’s expectations. The siblings focus specifically on how tough it is for the younger generation to manage the constant chaos and demands, living with the anxiety that comes with ticking every box. The words “overworked, underslept” open the track, a simple yet incredibly overwhelming statement that has become the norm for most on their day to day. “Masochistic Lovers” manages to convey this discomfort, while still being a headbanging rock song that will leave you reflecting long after listening.
