Breanna Yde, known by her mononym YDE, has announced the release of her forthcoming EP, 8, set to drop on Friday, Oct. 18. YDE shared the news via Instagram, along with the release of her latest single, “Parachute.”
“Parachute” explores themes of fear, uncertainty and emotional vulnerability in the face of love and life changes. The song captures YDE’s inner turmoil as she grapples with the risks that come with deep emotional experiences. She reveals her growing hesitation, recognizing that as one grows older, embracing vulnerability becomes harder due to the weight of potential consequences.
Lyrics like, “I don’t wanna lose it, I don’t wanna doubt it,” and “I’m scared my parachute ain’t what it was,” express a fear of losing trust in emotions and instincts that used to be reliable. The “parachute” serves as a metaphor for this fading sense of security, symbolizing her anxiety about falling or getting hurt.
Earlier this year, YDE released “Defense of Love” on Aug. 9, the lead single from her upcoming EP 8. The track was co-written by Justin Tranter (Chappell Roan, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez) and Mattman & Robin (Charli XCX, Imagine Dragons, RAYE) and produced by YDE herself.
Her debut EP, SEND HELP (2022), garnered widespread critical acclaim with standout tracks such as “Old Her,” “People Can Change” and “Normal to Feel.”
About the latest single, “Parachute,” YDE wrote on her Instagram:
“this song encapsulates the fear of what ifs. it’s the fear of loss, the fear of being hurt. the fear of love. as I get older, I’m allowing myself to experience life and love in a deeper sense. and because of that, I’m finding myself more vulnerable to the pain that could lie on the other side. life and love are unforgiving, and that is the beauty of all of it. this song is about walking through open doors without holding on to fear.”
