Australian artist Maver has collaborated with singer-songwriter LORA to create the perfect late-night drive song “I’m Healing.” This single is just a glimpse into what Maver has up his sleeve with his upcoming debut EP.
It immediately opens with divine hums that turn into a high-pitched synth that’s then distorted into the beat of the melody. The beat then seamlessly falls into the lyrics. The song’s strengths are within the bright dance elements that allow the listener to feel the song apart from hearing it. The tone of the song, while exuding the essence of indie pop, is bringing a new soundscape to the genre. This track is upbeat and inviting you to move to the beat of the song. Interestingly enough, LORA’s vocals don’t distract from what’s going on with the production but almost effortlessly add a layer of quality that engages the listener.
The vibrant melody that’s highlighted throughout the song makes it difficult to resist its fun nature despite the lyrics having a more moody spirit. It seems the lyrics speak to a story of the struggle with mental health and all that it can entail to lose a version of yourself to a journey like that. The lyrics read “There was another one / There was another me / l’ve been seeing two / Nice to meet you / I still see a version of myself inside my dreams / Who is she?”
Sonically, while it holds the essence of traditional indie pop, the sound it’s carrying is reminiscent of artists like BAYNK and Biig Piig. It’s overall interesting to see Maver’s artistry through the track, which will stand as a testament to his vision in his upcoming EP Spirals.
