Latin pop-funk band DARUMAS released their latest single “Francotirador” on Sept. 19 after being nominated for Best New Artist for the Latin GRAMMY’s. The all-girl group, consisting of bassist Aldana Aguirre, guitarist Ceci Leon and vocalist Vedala Vilmond, sing about never letting someone hurt them again in “Francotirador,” which translates to “sniper.”
The song immediately begins with a funky rhythm. In the first verse, they sing “Piensan q yo soy de cristal / Pero me volví más dura q el metal” which translates to “They think I’m made of glass / But I became harder than metal.” With lyrics like that, DARUMAS show that they aren’t to be messed with. In the chorus, they beautifully sing “Hoy nada rompe el corazón” with a smooth and powerful voice. Listeners will enjoy the energetic melody that the bass drives.
In the music video, the band members rock out in a bedroom and wear outfits that show off their own individual style. Vedala sings a sweet harmony as Aldana and Ceci passionately play their respective instruments. The girls’ fun day out makes “Francotirador” even more infectious.
DARUMAS is having a successful year. They released their self-titled debut album in May. They earned their first Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist on Tuesday. Past winners of the award include Puerto Rican band Calle 13 and Colombian pop star Karol G. The girl band will perform at Rock In Rio in Brazil on Friday and Heineken Silver Live Out in October. With these accolades, DARUMAS is well on their way to stardom. So, be sure to check them out. Tune in to the Latin GRAMMY’s on November 14 to find out if they win the prestigious title of Best New Artist.
