The dynamic lead of Against the Current, singer-songwriter Chrissy Costanza dropped her newest single, “I Tried to Act Your Age,” on Sept. 13. With a voice that has attracted over three billion streams worldwide, Costanza is ready to embark on her solo project. Combining cinematic rock and pop, she is creating the rebirth of her identity, becoming independent.
“I Tried to Act Your Age” marks a beautiful exit from a previous relationship. Costanza reflects on how she once fawned over her past lover, but has since drifted apart. The song begins gently, with soft piano chords supporting Costanza’s graceful voice. As she realizes she can no longer hold onto the relationship, the track crescendos into a rocking breakup anthem, with crashing cymbals and hard-hitting drum beats. Costanza’s lyricism describes the tear she feels in holding onto her lover while realizing she cannot really change who they are.
Prior to the song’s release, Costanza posted on Instagram:
“This song is for anyone counting the scars left by a love that ruined everything it touched. I can’t wait for you all to hear this one, especially with my debut EP just around the corner!”
Be sure to keep an eye out for Costanza’s debut EP and pick up tickets for the upcoming Spin the Bottle Tour on her website.
