Korn Celebrates 30 Years in Alpharetta, Georgia

Date:

Korn’s North American tour celebrating 30 years of freakishly good music, made its way to Alpharetta, Georgia on September 16, performing for a packed house at the Ameris Bank Amphitheater. The packed lineup featured Spiritbox and Gojira, delivering an absolute must-see for metalheads.

Spiritbox took the stage to open the evening, setting the energy at such a high level that retained throughout the whole concert. Frontwoman Courtney LaPlante’s visceral screams and haunting clean vocals paired perfectly with the band’s atmospheric yet crushing sound setting the tone for an unforgettable night. Tracks like “Holy Roller” and “Circle With Me” were the fan favorites as the crowd went wild from the first riff! Spiritbox with all their ferocity has cemented their place as one of the most exciting modern metal acts.

Next up, Gojira brought their signature blend of technical precision and raw power. Their live performance of “L’Enfant Sauvage” could be described as a huge fireball on stage, with epic pyro and lighting to escalate their already legendary stage presence. The sheer energy and musicianship of Joe Duplantier and his bandmates was on full display, creating a seismic experience that reverberated through the venue, with crowd surfers, pyro, and green and blue lightshows that enraptured the entire amphitheater. Coming off of their iconic Olymics opening ceremony, Gojira also treated the crowd to the song that broke metal into the global event, “Mea Culp (Ah! Ça ira!)”, for which the crowd went wild! Gojira proves themselves to be a mainstay and one of the greatest modern metal bands.

Then came Korn—the undisputed kings of nu-metal—who delivered a career-spanning set that took fans on a journey through nearly three decades of music. Classics like “Freak on a Leash,” “Blind,” and “Got the Life” hit hard, but it was the raw emotion of “Hey Daddy”, which until this tour has been left off of their setlist since 1999,  that truly gripped the crowd. Jonathan Davis’ voice was as powerful and tortured as ever, and the band’s chemistry was undeniable, with Munky and Head still delivering their intricate guitar rifts, with Ra Diaz filling in for Fieldy on bass, proving he is the right man for the job. Their ever-evolving sound and top-notch stage show proves why they continue to reign at the top of their genre. Fans from every era of the legendary bands career were catered to, with Korn delivered essentially a greatest hits show, which they have an arsenal of. Korn sounds the best live they have in years, which leads to believe that they will be around for years to come, still delivering the nu-metal goodness!

Each band brought something unique to the table, making this tour a masterclass in heavy metal and nu-metal. Whether you’re a longtime Korn fan or new to the metal scene, this show is an exhilarating experience that will leave you buzzing long after the final note fades.
