The “King of Reggaeton” Don Omar returned to the DMV-area on the second leg of his Back to Reggaeton tour on Sept. 8 at Capital One Arena. Previously, he sold out Eaglebank Arena, which has a capacity of 10,000 people, on the first day of his tour on April 14. On Sunday, he sold out Capital One Arena whose capacity is double that of Eaglebank’s. With energetic backup dancers and colorful lights, Don Omar performed hit after hit to host a night full of loud singing and, of course, perreo.
Before the concert even began, a DJ played a mix of classic Latin party songs and urban artists people love like Bad Bunny and Wisin & Yandel to energize the crowd for what’s to come. A black sheet kept the stage hidden with blue laser beams displaying Don Omar’s name with a crown above it.
Laser beams went up as the screen filled with a visual of a skull design and the countdown began. A square hole opened up the stage and fans saw a white skull slowly rise. The white skull rotated to reveal the King Don Omar sitting on a throne with a long, black leather jacket and a furry red scarf around his neck. He begins singing to an electric remix of “Dale don Dale” as dancers waved flags around him.
During the concert, Don Omar shouted out artists he’s collaborated with: Wisin & Yandel, Luny Tunes, and Daddy Yankee.
Leading to his performance of “Reggaeton Latino,” Don Omar united Latinos by taking time to shout out flags he saw audience members hold. People cheered every time they heard their country announced. While he performed his song, the screens displayed Don Omar live with the background changing to a different flag every couple seconds.
Halfway through the show, Don Omar left the stage and let the dancers take over. After a creative dance sequence, the reggaetonero returned to sing “Virtual Diva” with cyan lighting and purple lasers and fans dancing.
Throughout the concert, the backup dancers moved around the stage and changed outfits. Originally, they were revealing black outfits but by the end the women dancers wore a white skirt with a matching white top. At times, the stage was covered with fog and fire bursts happened occasionally to add excitement. The lasers changed colors for each song in order to create a colorful environment to dance in.
Some iconic hits that Don Omar played that had the audience hyped were “Salió el Sol” and “Cuéntale”. When it came time to perform “Ella y Yo,” the Puerto Rican artist had the crowd sing Romeo Santos’ verses.
For his popular hit “Danza Kadura” featured in the Fast and Furious franchise, light beams colored the arena in circles of purple and yellow as the crowd danced their heart out. After “Danza Kadura” and explosion of confetti, fans still chanted for more. The King came back to perform two more songs. He closed out the concert with “Bandoleros” which everyone sang with passion.
Overall, Don Omar successfully provides an amazing reggaeton concert for fans. Don’t miss out on having a fun night full of dancing and singing with Don Omar.
