Thomas Day explores the nuances of life and love on new EP, ‘Angel Boy,’ out Friday

Date:

Thomas Day is riding a rising wave in the pop/singer-songwriter scene, breaking in these last couple of years with his debut album, Love Me For Another Day (2023). Following the success of chart-topping singles like “Pretender” and “Hearts Get Broken“, Day continues exploring the nuances of life and love with the announcement of his new EP, Angel Boy, set to drop this Friday, Sept. 13.

The new EP will include his latest single, “Paper Cup,” released on Aug. 23, 2024, along alongside brand-new tracks, “Sentimental”, “Catch Up To Me” and “Broken Glasses”. Day shared that he wrote the chorus for “Paper Cup” during an early morning flight to Los Angeles, his mind consumed with post-breakup emotions and regret. Writing the song was both a therapeutic and challenging process for him, physically and mentally. He suggests that fans listen to the track with headphones, in a car, or even on a plane, encouraging them to close their eyes to fully absorb the song’s emotional weight.

On “Paper Cup”, Day delivers a powerful ballad filled with the pain of young love and heartbreak. Pushing us to feel something, Day sings, “Do you feel the same, knowing that our bodies touched / And I threw it away like coffee in a paper cup?” The metaphor perfectly encapsulates the sense of loss and regret.

Currently, Day is supporting Joshua Bassett on The Golden Years Tour, with stops in cities like Phoenix, Raleigh, Chicago and Salt Lake City. He will also join Bassett for the UK leg of the tour next week.
