New York City-based indie rock band Moon Kissed is animating heartbreak through synth in newest single, “Do You Miss Me Yet?”

The three-piece band has previously released two additional singles in anticipation of their forthcoming album I’ll See You In New York releasing on September 20th. With just two weeks until its release, “Do You Miss Me Yet?” is displaying the band’s strengths and giving listeners a taste as to what to expect from the project.

As much of their music dwells on the enigmatic feelings of desire and heartache, “Do You Miss Me Yet?” achieves just that. Khaya Cohen’s piercing vocals capture an anguish through aimless vocal runs and raw inflections. Through a magical synth played by Em Sgouros paired with indie guitars and steady drum beats from Elijah Scarpati, and co-produced between the three along with Sahil Ansari, the sonically exquisite and fun track is one not to miss out on.

“Do You Miss Me Yet” follows drawn-out vocals uplifted by a catchy synth melody. As opposed to a bridge, we can hear a sample of a conversation with a notable ending phrase, “the grass is always greener,” one which breaks down the serious tone. This finally leads into a deep crescendo as the song erupts in the final chorus.

The song’s premise begs the question, “do you miss me yet,” as the singer ponders her ex-partner’s perspective following a difficult breakup. She asks herself, “will it be one big lesson learned?” as an introspective reflection on the heartbreak she had experienced. The song continues on to reminisce not just about the relationship they once had, but the person they once were when with that other person.

While Moon Kissed resemble the likes of Um Jennifer?, Daisy Grenade, Meet Me @ The Altar, and HUNNY, their flare and unique take on their personal experience transcends their familiar sound.

Somewhere at the intersection between my love for music and my love for writing lies my passion for music journalism. While the title still seems silly, the ability to capture an artist's creation and share it with the world will never cease to excite me. As a psychology student, I continue to be fascinated with the underlying mechanisms of the human condition. What better way to understand the human mind if not through a person's art?
