18-year-old songwriter Alexa Valentino released her sophomore EP, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT, on Aug. 30. The collection of eight songs has already added five new songs to Valentino’s top 10 on Spotify – including standout track “wasted on me,” which has already climbed to number four.
Drawing inspiration from popular artists including Gracie Abrams, Lizzy McAlpine, and Nessa Barrett, Valentino’s music explores areas many are afraid to uncover – such as themes of religious trauma, depressive thoughts, and Borderline Personality Disorder. Valentino’s early days as an off-Broadway performer also find a place in her music, with influences from idols including Idina Menzel and Lea Michele. Influences aside, Valentino is creating her own sound, with striking electric guitar solos and graceful piano.
Valentino explores the feelings of being overwhelmed by a relationship in “wasted on me.” Expressing emotions of longing and frustration, Valentino’s production is both melodic and soulful, featuring expressive vocals that provide her listeners with someone to truly connect to.
