At only 19, Flynn Adamson has fully captured the essence of pop rock and alt rock in his new single “Work this Out.” He has been writing and creating music since he was fourteen, navigating life and writing about his experiences along the way. This new song feels exactly like a song you would hear in a coming-of-age movie. He has encompassed those sometimes hard-to-navigate emotions into a track people of all ages can relate to. The melody, along with the percussion that invites the listener to clap their hands along, also perfectly blends into his voice.
His tone in the song is quieter with emphasis on certain words that repeat to get the emotional impact of the song across. There is emphasis on as well as pauses between the lyrics “heartbreak” and “mistakes,” and then it speeds up into the hook again. The changing speed of the tempo throughout the song is used to really get the message across, creating the emotive landscape behind the catchy pop rock song.
The drums and the beat that open the song will also catch the ear, as it’s an easy beat to bounce your head to and the repetition in the lyrics helps listeners be able to sing along almost immediately. This gives the listener the opportunity to feel and hear the song all together. The slight use of reverb at some points is also a nice touch to break up certain instrumentals in the song, but overall they blend remarkably well. Ultimately, this is an end-of-summer song to blast while driving with your windows down to encompass all the feels the song has to offer.
