Melodic Music Monday: August 26

Date:

Every Monday, we bring you a playlist filled with new tracks the Melodic staff has been listening to on repeat. Hear some of our latest obsessions below:

Sabrina Carpenter, “Taste” Building on the success of “Please Please Please,” she continues this energy on “Taste,” a disco-infused, danceable opening track where she layers risqué innuendos of revenge and betrayal. Acknowledging that the love of her life has moved on, she provocatively states that she’ll let him cheat as long as her presence lingers (“I heard you’re back together and if that’s true /You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissin’ you /If you want forever, I bet you do / Just know you’ll taste me too”). On “Sharpest Tool,” Carpenter heartbreakingly admits that her ex isn’t the “sharpest tool” in the metaphorical shed. Rather there was merely nothing in this man’s eyes deep about their love for one another.

UPSAHL, “Tears on the dancefloor” – Ahead of her Melt me down tour and following her latest release “Summer so hot“, UPSAHL blends sultry vocals with an infectious beat in her newest release, “Tears on the dancefloor.” The song, drawing inspiration from the Timbaland-era of Nelly Furtado, blends modern pop with a throwback to the early 2000s. UPSAHL’s husky vocal tones seamlessly transition to elastic, higher registers, creating a dynamic listening experience.

Beach Weather, “Hardcore Romance” – On “Hardcore Romance,” Beach Weather indulge in the romance found in toxic relationships. The track has hard and soft contrasts, as the verses are kind of hazy and mellow while the choruses are thrashy and aggressive. All the while, we hear lines like, “I don’t wanna come back down to Earth / I don’t really feel like myself / Am I freaking you out? / I want that hardcore romance / Are we just toxic from the start?” You can check it out in the video below, which was directed by Alexa San Román.

Bay Ledges, “Fool” There is a musical exploration in Bay Ledges‘ new sound — it seems after some time on the road he stripped down to create a bright piece amongst the indie electro-pop scene. The new song “Fool” is featured on his sophomore album Rivers which is reflective of a transformative time of experiencing loss and inviting change. There is a lot of emotional depth within the song and it has themes of relatability that allow the listener to experience the song and not just listen to it.
