Halo Boy travels to 2150 to introduce a world of exploring the boundaries of alternative rock in “SAVE ME,” the musician’s latest single.
The Los Angeles-based singer and producer has experimented with the formulaic structure of your average song throughout his career. His mission as an artist is to draw on the multitude of unique qualities from the last few decades of music and on fragments of the past to make it his own, in hopes that his music can serve as an ingenious time capsule for the century ahead to look back on. He takes this one step further on new single, “SAVE ME.”
With a futuristic and prospective sound crafted in this track, through distorted guitar riffs, heavy drums and voice effects, “SAVE ME” sounds like a transformative journey into the future. The self-produced single clearly demonstrates the ability to reconstruct set genres and expand beyond competing artists.
It is difficult to uphold an artist’s identity when no two songs in their discography sound the same, but it is apparent that Halo Boy is not afraid to experiment with his sound. As a result, we get gems like “SAVE ME” that blend serious energy with untempered attitudes.
“SAVE ME,” a simple title that reiterates the cry in the chorus, reflects the struggle with inner demons. Through imagery like, “burn my wings / Down I fall / I can’t climb these walls,” opening the song sets the scene for the inner conflict taking control over Halo Boy’s autonomy and control over himself. Throughout the track, the songwriter consistently refers to a variety of symbols of demonic figures to personify his stifled feelings: “The future is bought / By a synthetic god / A god that’s a monster that feeds on my thoughts … A shadow that haunts me is all that I got.”
While having a sound and vocals reminiscent of Twenty One Pilots, Bring Me The Horizon and Poppy, Halo Boy’s ability to explore the alternative rock and pop rock genres through production and is worth checking out!
