UK-based alt-pop singer-songwriter zinha (aka Luisa Chumbinho) released her second single, “walls”, today, August 14, 2024. The track is a standout from her upcoming debut EP, ☹☺ [sad/happy], which will be released on September 20 via B3SCI. Known for her captivating vocal performances and heartfelt lyrics, zinha has quickly become one of Lisbon’s most beloved buskers, now making her mark on the broader music scene.
“walls” is a powerful love song that blends modern and vintage elements, capturing the emotional turmoil of a relationship’s end. The track was written and recorded in a small-town DIY studio, where zinha and producer Josh Christopher crafted the EP over the course of a year. The song’s live, metronome-free recording adds a raw, authentic feel to its thunderous sound. zinha’s lyrics and vocals vividly depict the crashing of waves, the rumbling of the underground, and the sound of hard rain falling, symbolizing the inevitable end of an era in any relationship.
Reflecting on the creation of “walls”, zinha shared:
“We wrote ‘walls’ after hearing a small snippet on Josh’s phone of the initial melody and chords. It naturally came together as I sang and he played it with me in the studio. It was all recorded without any metronome – so it’s all live pretty much. A real challenge! Walls is that moment in every relationship, friendship, or bond that’s come to an end of its era.”
With its release, “walls” sets the stage for zinha’s debut EP, promising a powerful and emotional listening experience that resonates with fans of adult contemporary and alt-pop genres.
