American punk-rock band Green Day are back, with the announcement of the 20th anniversary deluxe edition of their iconic album, American Idiot, which will be released on Oct. 25, 2024. The album was originally released on Sept. 21, 2004, via Reprise Records, to commercial success.
Upon its release on September 21, 2004, American Idiot debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, eventually selling over 23 million copies worldwide, including 9 million in the U.S. alone. It received a Grammy Award for “Best Rock Album” in 2005.
Green Day’s American Idiot, often referred to as a “Punk Rock Opera” by the band members, tells the story of Jesus of Suburbia, a lower-middle-class American adolescent anti-hero. Set against the backdrop of the post-9/11 era and the Iraq War, the album captures the disillusionment, anger and dissent of a generation grappling with political and social turmoil.
American Idiot marks an exciting venture for Green Day, as they celebrate the album’s legacy with a Super Deluxe Box Set available in both 8-LP Vinyl and 4-CD configurations. This special edition includes unreleased demos from the original recording sessions, rare B-sides, bonus tracks and previously unreleased live recordings.
In the Vinyl Box Set, each LP is pressed on a unique color vinyl, adding a vibrant touch to the collection. The set also features a 36-page book, a large Green Day flag and the iconic American Idiot red tie. Fans who purchase the set via direct-to-consumer (D2C) channels will also receive an exclusive poster.
The CD Box Set offers a different array of collectibles, including a 48-page book, an enamel pin set, a sticker sheet and a cloth patch, making it a must-have for Green Day enthusiasts.
The first three tracks from Green Day’s American Idiot Super Deluxe Box Set are now available on all streaming platforms. These include an unreleased demo of the iconic “Holiday/Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” the fan-favorite B-side “Favorite Son,” and a live version of “Minority” recorded at Irving Plaza.
