Dani Stocksdale wants to feel close to you in ethereal new single “Fight With Me”

Date:

New York City-based independent pop artist Dani Stocksdale returns with her fourth single “Fight With Me”, a perfect mix of emotive storytelling and vibrant pop sound.

The track comes after her debut single “Swimming Pools”, which delves into clever wordplay, and a few months after her first Spanish-language release titled “Solitas”.

“Fight With Me”, which has accumulated more than 100,000 likes on TikTok through snippets and sneak peeks, explores themes of vulnerability, friendship and distance. Stocksdale is frustrated with her friend’s emotionally distant and uncommunicative tendencies, singing, “Why don’t you open up the way I do? / Why do I feel like you’re always listening but I never hear you saying anything would be better / Like how you feel about the weather”.

Instead, she yearns for connection, sharing her desire to “feel” more deeply, pleading for her partner to fight with her so she can feel close to them, singing, “Try with me / When you don’t know what else to do”, before concluding with a breathy and ethereal chorus outro that flows into the second verse and the bridge, “I just want to feel you.”

In the bridge, Stocksdale finds herself crippling and falling into emotional drowning, singing, “Swallow all the pride before the ocean swallows you / Could be that you’re tired or you’re stuck inside your smile / But it’s been getting hard for me to tell between the two”.

In a press release statement, Stocksdale spoke about the latest track “Fight With Me”, which blends unique pop influences with deep reflective lyricism:

“This was the first song I wrote with my long-time collaborator Stella Smyth, inspiring us to create an entire project together. ‘Fight With Me’ is the first release from that project. The song reflects a fading friendship, where my friend kept pulling away during important conversations. I felt like I was giving a lot of myself to this relationship without feeling the same in return. This song is a plea for her to engage and, essentially, fight with me so we could truly communicate and reconnect.”
