William Fitzsimmons Releases “Holding a Place For You”, First Track in Nearly Three Years

Date:

After returning to original music for the first time in almost three years, William Fitzsimmons is showing listeners what he is capable of. In his most recent single, “Holding a Place For You”, Fitzsimmons explores themes of grieving and letting go of someone who is no longer there.

About the song’s meaning, Fitzsimmons says:

“Like phantom limb syndrome of the soul, we often have the tendency to hold onto the habits and presence of someone else even after they’re gone. We find ourselves setting a place at the table where one is no longer needed.”

Fitzsimmons’ features labelmate Bre Kennedy on this single, who adds haunting harmonies throughout the piece. About working on this piece, Kennedy said:

“I got to sing a good bit on this stunning album, and when William and Marshall Altman asked me to feature on this song, I felt instantly connected to it. “Holding A Place for You” is such a beautifully haunting song about unconditional love and memory, and this song found me when I needed to hear it. I love William’s writing and melodies and loved getting to sing on this song.”

In addition to the song release, Fitzsimmons dropped the “Holding a Place For You” official music video. The video features a juxtaposition of vibrant images against the song’s lonely lyrics to highlight the grief Fitzsimmons is working through. Since its premiere six days ago, the video has received 2,000 views on YouTube.
