Anything can happen in a chatroom, as those who like to socialize online would know. Just like colorful conversations about a variety of topics can unfold, colorful sounds and mixes of genres occur when listening to indie rock band Chatrooms. The San Fernando Valley-based band, and newest signee to Best Life Records, have pulled in a strong following with their distinct songwriting skills, from their inescapable melodies to their meaningful lyrics. Their 2019 single “It’s Alright,” for instance, has reached over one million streams on Spotify alone, establishing them as a group to watch out for and add to your playlists. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to log into Chatrooms, as they give us their new single “Disconnected.”
Containing a dark wave indie punk sound, “Disconnected” bottles up all the drama and turmoil that arises when wanting to break free from the mundane. Influenced by bands like The Cure, Joy Division, and AFI, Chatrooms use bendy guitar riffs, high-energy beats, and succinct melodies that fans of these artists will easily recognize. Desperately, vocalist Angel Carmona III delivers lines like, “Am I just bad luck? / I do the same thing over and over / Again and again” and “I wish it would all just go away,” ready to start anew. Despite its title, “Disconnected” is a track that anyone who wants more and deserves more can easily connect with and vibe to the next time things aren’t going as planned. You can check it out below.
About “Disconnected,” Angel shared,
“Basically, ‘Disconnected’ will be our first single that we’ve released since 2021. We were aiming for a dark wave indie punk sound when creating this track…Lyrically, this song is about the struggle within oneself when you feel like you’re stuck in a repeating cycle and have no answer or direction to break free from it.”
“Disconnected” is from Chatrooms’ upcoming EP, SOMETHING WENT WRONG…, out June 28. You can pre-save the project here.
You can listen to “Disconnected” on platforms like Bandcamp and SoundCloud.
