Janna Jamison tells a story of yearning for someone who, as she puts it, “objectively sucks” in her most recent single, “Missing U”. Writing songs since the age of four, Jamison’s musical repertoire features a wide range of influences, from country to punk. After taking a semester in New York to play shows and graduating from Belmont University in Nashville, Jamison is now back in her hometown of Los Angeles to work on releasing new music, including her sophomore EP, Lovesuite.
Reflecting on her release, Jamison posted on Instagram:
“I could not be more thrilled with how this one turned out! Give it a listen and let me know what you think. I sincerely appreciate every comment, DM, or text that you send me with support of what my band and I put so much time and energy into. This one is really special and I fear we might have popped off.”
“Missing U” blends bright pop melodies with distorted guitars, featuring Ian Kelly and Nicholas Kasko on guitar and Sam Dunn on bass, with mixing by David Turk and mastering by Nat Jenkins. Throughout the song, Jamison sings about longing for someone who did not care for her, and “missing someone who was only in love with himself”. Each piece of the song fits perfectly together and creates a final product similar to that of rising indie pop-rock stars James Ivy and Chappell Roan.
The track closes featuring a voicemail message. Jamison said via an Instagram post that the voicemail is “John Jamison and I talking about his serendipitous sighting of Dule Hill from the almost super popular comedy series ‘Psych’ iykyk”. The message gives the song a personal touch that ties the piece together nicely.
