Buddy Wynkoop create new alternative sound on “Racing”

Date:

Buddy Wynkoop released their newest single off of their upcoming debut LP coming this fall. A four-piece punk band out of Portland, Buddy Wynkoop creates a new and inventive sound on “Racing.”

The bouncy synth and colorful guitar fuse with the vocals to create a synergy that carries the song. While the song is undeniably fun and airy, there is a darker looming energy to the synth at points that helps to emphasize the lyrical message of “Racing”. The song tells the story of a rocky back-and-forth romance, with the narrator lamenting that their partner will “give me your love, take it back” over and over through the verses. These lines speed up until the end of the song, creating an urgency in the narrator’s need for their partner to return.

Combining spoken word and off-kilter existentialism with their 80s-inspired vocal style, the band has a unique sound with room for exploration on their upcoming album.
