Released their third LP Name Your Sorrow on April 19.

Having just released their third studio album Name Your Sorrow via Royal Mountain Records, Irish indie-rock group Pillow Queens possesses an artistry that is profoundly multi-layered. Simultaneously delicate and hard-hitting, Pillow Queens maintain a musicality that, while displaying a new level of maturity on their new album, has always expressed the human condition. With a sound that is heavily reminiscent of 90s rock, Pillow Queen’s music is somber and deep.

Be sure to stream Pillow Queens’ Name Your Sorrow on Spotify and Apple Music.

Consisting of Pamela Connolly (lead vocals, guitar, bass), Sarah Corcoran (vocals, guitar, bass), Cathy McGuinness (vocals, lead guitar) and Rachel Lyons (vocals, drums), Pillow Queens originally made their musical debut in 2016 with their EP Calm Girls. Each member came from previous musical projects that had ended, and thus were hesitant to start a new band. However, every member recognized what was brewing as soon as they all got together and they decided to chase this feeling despite the hesitation. Thus, Pillow Queens was born.

After releasing their debut EP, Pillow Queens went on to tour Ireland and the UK, soon earning praise from outlets such as NPR, The Guardian and Pitchfork. Their debut album In Waiting came out in 2020 and earned the band an Irish Band of the Year nomination and their debut American late night television appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Pillow Queens began to tease Name Your Sorrow with the single “Suffer”, and soon the following singles “Gone” and “Like A Lesson”. The final single was a heavy 90s rock song with exciting fuzzy guitars, inspired by the longing for and fear of intimacy. Along with the new album’s release, Pillow Queens put out a music video for “Heavy Pour”. Shot completely in black and white and reminiscent of a silent film, the song and video were both inspired by gender stereotypes and how men are traditionally seen as braver.

Now, the indie Irish outfit plan to play some shows in celebration of Name Your Sorrow, and this summer they play a string of dates across the UK in June. In July, Pillow Queens will open for Snow Patrol and will also play their biggest show ever at Iveagh Gardens in Dublin.
