The last time fans heard from Empire Of The Sun was nearly eight years ago, when the Australian electronic duo released their last album Two Vines. The project featured artists like Lindsey Buckingham, Wendy Melvoin from Prince’s The Revolution band, and members of David Bowie’s band from the Blackstar sessions, helping it achieve multi-platinum success.
While Empire Of The Sun have been on the down-low since then, interest in the duo has reached an all-time high. In the last year alone, their music has received over 5 billion views and their monthly listeners on Spotify are at 22 million. If there was ever a perfect time for Empire Of The Sun to resurface, it would be now. They begin their next era with the aptly titled “Changes.”
From the funky disco riffs to the vibey acoustic strumming, “Changes” encourages fans to come along with Empire Of The Sun on this new journey – even if it is not clear where the journey will lead. Throughout the single, we get fuzzy vocals that calmly guide us into this next chapter. We hear lines like, “Don’t stop moving / Don’t you let them win” and “This time, we’re going through changes / Letting go,” making us believe that whatever happens next will not be disappointing. Overall, it is a mellow yet dancey offering that you will not be able to resist.
The music video is similar to a small movie, as we watch a child venture away from home to track down a mysterious object that has fallen from the sky. We soon find out that this object contains the members of Empire Of The Sun trapped inside. As they await to be rescued, a few paranormal creatures from a nearby forest gather around. What happens next? You will have to find out below. The video is the first of a multi-part series, so stay tuned for more.
About “Changes,” Lord Nick Littlemore explains,
“‘Changes represents the shifting sands of time; empires rise and fall but the sun shall shine on. Come once more into the world we’ve created, delve deeper within and be rewarded with its ever-expanding story; each and every one is invited to explore the new era.”
Emperor Luke Steele also shares,
“‘Changes’ was a breakthrough track for us. It felt like the moment of clarity when it became evident we were in the new era, our time of rebirth, the next chapter of Empire.”
You can listen to “Changes” on platforms like SoundCloud, Spotify, and Apple Music.
