After teasing his new single on social media, Dreamer Boy received a comment from Billie Eilish’s iconic brother and music partner in the form of “This is sick.” The hype for new music from Dreamer Boy has been building since 2022, when he released “OVER EVERYTHING,” “HUES,” and “JUMPSHOT!” Since then, Dreamer Boy has been travelling, performing, and cultivating his “rodeo clown” persona, a persona that helps him embrace a wide range of emotions and genres in his music. We see this persona on the cover art for his new single, “Heartbreaker,” which focuses on the high-speed thrill of falling both into and out of love.
Written after several road trips to parts of America’s south, “Heartbreaker” captures the fun and innocence of connecting with someone who may be bad news. With his bandmates in The Lone Stars, Dreamer Boy conjures up the tenacity and charm of 70s glam rock, heard through the electric guitars, chantable melodies, crooning vocals, and the infectious “Oohs” peppered in between the lyrics. “‘Heartbreaker’ carries this hyperbolized energy of my lived experience. The song has this fun, zany energy of heartbreak, the feeling that you’ve sort of met your match. The narrator is pining after this equally tempting and damaging person who sort of reels them in. As soon as they get too close, it just kind of blows up and leads to more heartbreak. The hook is one of those messages that you can’t really receive in the moment, but you look back and realize a warning sign was there.”
