How have I already listened to this 4 times?
Psych-folk artist TOVE‘s new single “Sucker Punch” is a lovely, inviting vortex that one would and should volunteer to spin in.
It’s so warm and dynamic. The bass is the primary instrument carrying the chord progression over-top a consistent, insistent “boom-cah-boom-cah” drum beat. Top and mid-line instruments fill in the blanks with acoustic guitars playing “response” to an electric guitar’s “call”. This electric guitar is layered with the sauce that really makes this song stick in one’s mind. A consistent, reverbed whistle that plays unison with the main riff. The secret seasoning is added with crystalline mandolin textures that just fill up every nook and cranny.
TOVE puts icing on this mellow, trippy cake with ethereal vocals that put down choruses, verses and na-na’s that are sure to remain bouncing in the mind of the listener. It’s these vocals in combination with a comfy, interesting instrumental that make “Sucker Punch” a playlist must add.
