Having made music for a little over ten years as Cereus Bright, Tyler Anthony was ready for a change. The Knoxville singer and songwriter has earned a heavy following over the years through releases like “American Dream” and “Stella,” both receiving over 8 million and 18 million monthly streams on Spotify respectively. Cereus Bright’s albums have had mass appeal as well, 2016’s Excuses and 2021’s Give Me Time both delving into a series of emotions that can resonate with anyone who is accustomed to the highs and lows in life. As Cereus Bright gears up for the release of his upcoming album, which will deviate from the intimate sounds of Give Me Time, he is dropping the dreamy “Pink Sky.”
If there was a way to turn the powerful qualities of a sunset into a song, the result would be “Pink Sky.” Filled with whimsical string and piano work, Cereus Bright captures the essence of looking at a relaxing sunset after a demanding day, taking us on a peaceful journey. He invites us in with lines like, “Sing a song / Into the pink sky / Watch the half-light keep / The evening blue at bay,” setting the scene. Elsewhere, he inspires by singing, “Take a chance / Before your mind caves in / When all the pieces break / They never fit again,” filling listeners with hope that they can take with them into another day. You can check it out below.
Describing the creative process of his upcoming album, Cereus Bright explains,
“Where my last record was very personal and intimate, I wanted this project to expand to bigger ideas. I attempted to take the mundane and make it abstract. When you put something familiar in an unfamiliar place, you see it differently. To get there, I explored more mythological and otherworldly ideas and sounds than ever before while trying to retain the core intimacy of songwriting that I’ve always strived for. I hope what we made is a perfect balance.”
You can listen to “Pink Sky” on platforms like Apple Music, SoundCloud, and Spotify.
