Flowtone Releases Intense New Single “Eats Me Alive”

Date:

Chicago-based alternative rock band Flowtone has given us one more thing to be thankful for: their intense and emotional new single “Eats Me Alive”. This track is the first glimpse of what we can expect from their upcoming debut album Within Reach.

“Eats Me Alive” wastes no time getting to the point. The vocals kick in over a minimalistic and slow soundscape almost immediately, describing a feeling of bubbling anxiety. The vocals gain power as drums and a slow but menacing guitar rhythm join in. We head into the first chorus with even more energy as the insistent drums drive us forward. We’re treated to a brief rock-and-roll breakdown accented with piano notes as lead vocalist Nissim Torres sings the lyrics “eats me alive”.

After a brief and eerie instrumental interlude, the next verse incorporates a subtle fingerpicked guitar along with the rhythmic strums and drums that were introduced in the beginning. After the powerful second chorus, we head again into a stripped-down bridge before the electric guitars and drums come back with a vengeance. The slow crash of the cymbals in perfect time with the guitar adds emphasis to the lyrics being sung.

The final chorus is accented by heavy, cinematic instrumentals, driving the message home. Flowtone brings things to a close with a dynamic guitar solo and the repetition of the lyrics “eats me alive”.

The contrasting eerie and hard-hitting instrumentals in this track flawlessly represent that feeling you get in your gut when something’s just not right. The verses embody a subtle feeling of anxiety while the choruses and breakdowns illustrate the real-life mental breakdowns that can come as a result of being swallowed by these subconscious thoughts. Flowtone has managed to perfectly capture this emotion in this impassioned track.

Keep your eye out for more new music from Flowtone. Their debut album Within Reach is due out January 5, 2024.
