Coach Party are touring their debut album Killjoy, full of huge soaring riffs, heavy breakdowns and plenty of earworm choruses, and their live show is exceptional. Supported on their UK tour by Swedish band Girl Scout, the sold out crowd in Portsmouth were justifiably excited.
Hailing from just across the Solent, on the Isle of Wight, this felt like a hometown show for Coach Party; indeed the band, support, and manager Jonathan, gathered on stage for a celebratory tequila near the end of the show. The seventeen song set was superb, with of course plenty from the new album, highlights including “What’s The Point In Life”, and plenty of much loved songs from the back catalogue including the marvellous live performance of “Feel Like a Girl”. The band are now heading off for a European tour and have just been announced for a slot at SXSW festival in 2024. The future is looking very exciting indeed.
Touring partners Girl Scout livened things up nicely opening the show. Their seven song set may have been new to many in the audience, but they certainly made new fans judging by their reception.
Highlights included “Weirdo” and recent single “Bruises”. They even had a little ad-break mid-set, with appropriate jangly guitar music as their merch was paraded across the stage; Cute and endearing.
