The dog days of summer call for long drives with the windows down and a dreamy soundtrack to boot, and Evelyn Cools‘ “Coasting” fits right in. With inspiration born from the California coast, the track pairs feather-light vocals with a hazy melody and tender lyrics that tell a story of falling in love.
Cools‘ work is influenced by dreamy pop, folk and rock titans like Stevie Nicks, Lana Del Rey and Simon and Garfunkel. While originally from Belgium, the singer-songwriter has planted roots around the world, from Hong Kong to London and New York, and carries this unique sense of wanderlust into her work.
Cools dropped over a dozen singles and EPs since 2017, and “Coasting” is the latest of 5 tracks released just this year. This collection of songs became Wilder Mind, a culmination of her time living in various parts of the US, where she met the people who became her creative team and experienced the country’s natural beauty.
