It’s interesting to consider the amalgamation of musical influences that must have cumulated to make Samuel Nicholson’s sound, especially in his latest single, “Gummi”.
The indie-rock musician and composer from Edinburgh Scotland released “Gummi” as his third single on his newest album, Birthday Suit, coming out on June 9th. The single starts out soft before opening up with an electric guitar solo with reverberation that makes the sound seem nostalgic and sentimental.
Nicholson has released numerous singles before with much popularity in Scotland and London, where he’s currently completing a tour. Birthday Suit is a particularly special album for Nicholson, as it discusses things very personal to him.
“It brings the listener into the world of someone who has recently been diagnosed with autism,” the musician says about the new album, “I loved the idea of writing an album that rejected the odd ritual we adopt of disguising our flaws and malice when we’re trying to find a soulmate, and instead found power in honesty and candor.”
