As much as we may strive for perfection, there will be moments when we do something wrong or sketchy – sometimes on accident, sometimes on purpose. And then, we have to act like it didn’t happen or won’t happen again in the future. At first, it can be easy to pretend like everything is normal, but the longer the charade lasts, the harder it is not to crack. On “Holly,” Anna Shoemaker fills us in on a time when she had to adopt the “fake it til you make it” lifestyle, making excuses and keeping secrets until there was nothing left to hide.
Anna’s first single of 2023 is a magnetic indie pop song with lighthearted melodies, driving acoustic guitar, and gentle percussion. Throughout the track, Anna confesses that she has been playing it cool in front of someone named Holly, telling this person lies in order to quell suspicions about a potentially problematic situation. With her calm and collected vocals, she sings, “I told Holly we were high but we came down / I spilled coffee on my shirt so I wore his out / Last time I was at his place I was way too weird I couldn’t stay / I told Holly I was good ‘til you’re around.” You can check it out in the goat-filled video below!
