On Joan’s new single, they “don’t wanna be your friend”

Date:

On their new single, “don’t wanna be your friend,” Joan face the harsh realities that follow a breakup. The story starts with an ex that’s back in town. In the past, they would catch up and talk over a coffee, reopening half-healed wounds and revisiting old memories – all for the sake of being friends. This time, they just can’t do it again, because as the song title suggests: they don’t want to be friends.

About the single, they said, “It’s about growing up and knowing that you just can’t continue being friends with each other, because you know how that situation turns out. We hope this song resonates with you in some way – makes you realize you need to cut that person out of your life…”

The duo, Alan Benjamin Thomas and Steven Rutherford, co-wrote the track with Nightly’s Jon Capeci after returning home from touring. The song is a welcome addition to their already impressive discography, which includes several EPs and singles. 2023 promises to be Joan’s greatest year yet, with the release of their debut album and playing worldwide tours and festivals.
