Earlier this year, Anna Shoemaker released her debut album, Everything is Fine (I’m Only on Fire), which contained breakout singles “Mariah” and “It’s Depression.” The album focused on topics such as mental health and relationships, with Anna selflessly spilling her guts in the process. In doing so, Anna reminded listeners that it is okay to be vulnerable, as there can be much to gain when opening up to someone. This concept comes through on Anna’s new single, “I’m Your Guy,” which is about showing up for someone unconditionally.
An intimate alt-rock ballad, “I’m Your Guy” takes a look at loyalty and unconditional love. The track was co-written by Anna’s longtime friend and collaborator Richie Quake, who just released “Crawl” with Anna a few months ago. Giving us warm melodies and sprawling vocals, Anna sings, ““If you’re hurting, babe, I wanna know / If you wanna leave, I’ll take you home” and “Baby, if you’ll be my man, I’m your guy,” advocating a type of relationship that transcends traditional norms and stereotypes. You can check it out below.
Telling us more about the inspiration behind the single, Anna reveals,
“It’s been made clear over and over again that people in power in our country don’t really give a shit about us, so it’s really up to us to protect and be there for each other.”
You can snag tickets for Anna’s show tonight in Brooklyn, NY at Elsewhere Rooftop here and tickets for her show at Baby’s All Right (also in Brooklyn and with Jesse Jo Stark) on October 19 here.
