Earlier this year, we were introduced to Shobsy through the release of his debut single, “Vanity.” Using various elements of 80s pop music, “Vanity” told the haunting story of society’s love affair with technology. Shobsy’s dramatic vocals and use of falsetto made the track a beautifully tragic display of art, which is further depicted in the music video. As he continues to make a name for himself, Shobsy is releasing “Driven,” further inviting us into his modern-meets-retro world.
With “Driven,” Shobsy creates another fresh take on 80s pop. Incorporating theatrical vocals, Shobsy tells the story of a friendship that is on the verge of becoming something more. We feel this tension, this uncertainty of what could happen with lines like, “I thought you told me that things would never change” and “Why can’t you just let me be?” showing the indecisiveness of this moment. You can check it out below.
Telling us more about “Driven,” Shobsy shares,
“‘Driven’ is a song inspired by the feeling of being toyed with by someone you have fallen in love with. It captures the mood of the crossover where sexual tension meets true commitment. In the song, the character is being tortured by their love interest’s lack of clarity with what they truly want.”
You can listen to “Driven” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
