The Gang of Youths rollout behind angel in realtime. continues to get better and better. Last week, the Australian band released “in the wake of your leave”, a shimmering piece of indie-rock that’s been in our constant rotation since it dropped. Typically, we wouldn’t cover a music video separately from the single, but this morning they’ve gone and dropped a contender for one of the best videos of 2021.
The video is a beautifully choreographed dance number starring lead singer Dave Le’aupepe, and it takes place on a hyperreal representation of the band’s newfound home of London. It’s a perfect accompaniment to the impressive song that brings to mind the golden age of musicals. This band is firing on all cylinders right now and it’s an absolute joy to watch.
