Enough sold-out shows have come through Boston since venues reopened, that every show feels like a special moment. Perhaps none more special so far than Thursday night at House of Blues across from iconic Fenway Park, when Vermont native Noah Kahan brought his latest folk-pop hybrid album I Was/I Am through Beantown. Kahan (and Australian opener Blake Rose) were both sincerely overwhelmed by playing the biggest show of their lives so far. Kahan tore through his setlist with the capacity 2,500 crowd singing along every word – he even donned a Red Sox jersey to make the occasion.
Rose opened up the night to an already packed to the brim room. His set demanded the attention of those who didn’t already know him. Those who were familiar with Rose sang along to every word – so much so you’d have thought he was a headliner. His set included songs like “Rollerblades,” “Hotel Room,” and “Lost.” A highlight was actually his cover of “Left Hand Free” by Alt-J.
With infectious energy and irresistible melodies, there’s little doubt this 2,500 capacity theatre won’t hold Kahan for long. Expect to see even bigger things as more people discover the self-proclaimed “Jewish Ed Sheeran.” He tore through his set, opening with “A Troubled Mind” and “Passenger” working his way through to a rousing encore that included “Hurt Somebody” and “Young Blood.”
